Let's discuss the idea of putting on WWWD events at other times of the month than the last Saturday for our full large event. My thought is that anytime two or more WWWD Artists perform as the featured artists at an event where they perform mostly political/social music, they could call it a WWWD something. I was thinking "satellite edition" as a way to talk about it. That would be WWWD SE? I'm open to a better name, and open to a discussion about what would constitute a satellite show.
Let's discuss.
Satellite edition ...
Maybe any of the individual artists who appear in duo-or-more form could bill themselves as X and X, members of WWWD, a group of Kansas City area singer/songwriters performing in the spirit of Woody Guthrie .... etc., etc. or something like that.
Are you wanting to increase visibility for the WWWD "brand," or make people more aware of the fact that political music is actually happening in their midst, or what?
I think Checkered Past would be happy to be affiliated with WWWD -- are you suggesting that our concerts (which will get to be more and more strictly political as the political season heats up, I think) be identified as WWWD concerts?
Satellite Edition
I guess I'm wondering where do we draw the line, and if we want to do this at all. Now, of course, you are always welcome to do your own shows having nothing to do with WWWD. That would be rediculous to ask anyone to associate their own gigs with WWWD if they didn't want to. The question really is, if any performer wants to use the WWWD "brand", what does that mean? What should we "allow"?
I think that increasing the visibility is really the main objective. Obviously there is no money changing hands here, so the only real motivation is visibility, or free advertising, whatever, of WWWD. What other objective can you think of? And do we want to do it, or just stick with the main events and do more better advertising?
I guess I'm thinking of WWWD as something where more than one person or group get together and perform songs of political activism and/or social conciousness. So, under this thesis, if Checkered Past does a show, then no, it's not a WWWD, but if Checkered Past and Jim Herrmann share a show, and do all or mostly political/social songs, then that could be called a WWWD SE. It could also just be called Jim Herrmann and Checkered Past playing at the same venue.
I'm just trying to sort out a new direction for something that appears to be taking on life of it's own. I'm trying to think of ways to nourish that "new life" and help it grow. WWWD SE sems like a way to help that growth in some way.
